The EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR)
Impact of the EUDR on your business practices
On June 9, 2023, the European Union published the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The directive aims to ensure that products imported into or exported from the EU market do not contribute to global deforestation and forest degradation. Specifically, the EUDR therefore establishes due diligence obligations in relation to seven raw materials and some products made from them:

The EUDR regulations will apply to large companies from December 30, 2025. From June 30, 2026, small and micro-enterprises will also be affected by the EUDR regulations.
If your company trades in the raw materials mentioned or the products listed in the law, you may be affected by the directive. We would be happy to assist you in implementing the legal requirements in your company in a timely manner.
EUDR obligations for companies at a glance
The scope of the EUDR defines various due diligence obligations depending on the company’s business activities and for different company sizes. The full due diligence obligation of companies basically comprises three points:
- Initial collection of information about the product and its origin
- Risk assessment based on the information collected
- Implementation of risk mitigation measures (if no negligible risk has been identified)
If the risk assessment has identified a negligible risk, the third point can be skipped. All affected companies are obliged to place their products on the market only after fulfilling their due diligence obligations and subsequently submitting a due diligence declaration. The directive defines what information must be included in the due diligence declaration.
